Holiday Decorating for a Texas Hill Country Home

Warm kitchen with patterned details ready for seasonal styling

The holidays in the Hill Country have a special feeling: cool evenings, twinkling small-town squares, and homes filled with family. Your decorating can reflect that same warmth by working with the natural character of your home instead of competing with it.

Let the fireplace be the star

Many Hill Country homes have a stone fireplace, and it makes a natural focal point. A full garland of mixed greenery, a few candles, and stockings in natural fabrics can be enough. Avoid crowding the mantel — the stone itself is part of the beauty.

Choose a palette that suits your rooms

  • Cream, gold, and greenery feel elegant beside limestone and light wood.
  • Deep red, plaid, and leather tones suit darker wood and a cozier look.
  • Natural elements such as pinecones, dried oranges, and branches bring the outdoors in.
  • Ribbon in velvet or linen adds softness and ties the whole home together.

Decorate in a few meaningful places

Instead of decorating every surface, choose the spaces your family and guests see most: the front door, the entry, the mantel, the dining table, and the tree. Repeating the same ribbon and greenery in each place makes the whole home feel intentional.

Plan ahead for a calmer season

November is a great time to plan. Take stock of what you already have, decide on your palette, and note what you need before stores run low. If you would rather have help, I offer seasonal decorating consultations for homes across the Hill Country and Texas.
